Better Transducers, Superior Performance and Reliability

Every Theory loudspeaker driver is engineered from the ground up for the specific intended application. By taking control of transducer development, we are able to apply greater attention to detail, employ advanced materials and optimize each design in ways that would not be possible with “off-the-shelf” components.

Theory full-range speakers employ low-frequency diaphragms made from specially-treated carbon fiber which eliminates resonances in the passband and adds increased weather resistance. The sound is clean, clear and detailed, and the diaphragms are nearly indestructible.

All Theory high-frequency drivers are true compression tweeters, even in the smallest models, and employ a specialized polymer diaphragm that delivers clean, pure, treble sound without the hash and harshness typical of modern drivers of this type. The result is extremely dynamic, yet extremely clean, clear and extended high frequencies - unheard of in commercial/professional loudspeakers.

Most loudspeakers available for small and medium size commercial installations are built from cheap plastic, or some may be painted plywood. The former tend to look cheap and unrefined, and the latter, usually clunky and industrial; these are not design attributes you want for today’s premium, and often elegant, spaces.

Theory surface mount loudspeakers are built from machined and extruded aluminum, ensuring a perfectly inert, extremely durable enclosure while also allowing for visually pleasing, unobtrusive form.

Theory shares an engineering facility with its sister company, Pro Audio Technology (PRO), maker of medium and large format loudspeakers and amplifiers for installed sound and used by movie stars, movie directors, musicians, and producers around the world.

Together, Theory and PRO have invested heavily in the best laboratory equipment and modeling software available, from brands like Bruel & Kjaer, Audio Precision, Loudsoft, and others, including a very unique 12-foot-high installation of the Klippel Near Field Scanner (NFS) - the most advanced, and most accurate way to measure loudspeakers extant.

Every Theory loudspeaker is developed and optimized on the NFS, ensuring the most accurate sound reproduction possible.

More importantly, you can take comfort in the accuracy of the directivity and performance data published for Theory loudspeakers as all of it has been captured and processed by the Klippel system to ensure your system designs and acoustic models are as accurate and valuable as possible.

The Theory product ecosystem is founded on the concept of a dedicated DSP amplifier (Amplified Loudspeaker Controller) processing and optimizing the audio signal uniquely for each Theory loudspeaker model.

Theory Loudspeaker Controllers and Loudspeakers have been developed in unison, and function together as a system - much like “powered” or “active” loudspeakers which have the electronics built into the speaker enclosures. We have simply housed the electronics in a separate, rack-mountable chassis making installation, programming, and service much easier, while also eliminating the need to run AC power to every speaker location, which is not only impractical, often times, it’s impossible.

By employing the most advanced DSP techniques within a closed system, we can ensure the highest performance possible and ensure that Theory Loudspeakers are the most reliable on the market. Not only that, but since we’re crazy perfectionists, we’re always improving the performance of our products and since the “speaker voicing” resides in the Theory Loudspeaker Controller, whenever we improve the voicing, or performance, of a loudspeaker model, a simple firmware update brings the improvement to your project with a few simple mouse clicks, for free.

Just like your Tesla, you may wake up one day and learn that “Ludicrous Mode” has just been made available for your Theory pendant loudspeaker.

Dante / AES67 Digital Audio

It’s all about the networking.

The latest 4-channel Theory loudspeaker controllers come standard with Dante and AES67 audio over IP capability. You can dispense with costly, bulky, analog audio cables and connect everything over a common ethernet network. There are separate ethernet connections for audio and control to insure that both functions work seamlessly within your network.

Full compatibility with the AES67 standard insures Theory loudspeaker controllers can be incorporated into any existing AES67 protocol system in the event Dante is not available or desired.
